The Bowtruckle
Tree
Natural History Museum, London

About

The Bowtruckle Tree was a playful interactive projection exhibited in the Natural History Museum's Fantastic Beasts exhibition in 2021.

Bowtruckle creatures appear on the bottom branches of the tree and react defensively to visitors as they walk past.

In the absense of visitors, an idle sequence shows Bowtruckle creatures walking peacefully on the upper branches.

The software was developed in collaboration with the Natural History Museum's technical department,  who supplied the IR sensor rig. Sensor values were retrieved via serial communication.
